It’s a 1973 Datsun 240z. It was introduced to the market in 1969, it is projected to the US market the Japanese had to stand a position for the US and European markets and this car was the recipe to the success that came after.

And this is also why I consider this car one of the most relevant Japanese car ever This was the beginning of the Z saga which still exists maybe the most successful sports car generation with almost 1 million units sold and this was the first one. And it is a very special car!

My name is Francisco Calado, and I’m a part of this magnificent Datsun 240z history It’s a species of a GT/Fastback with very typical proportions. I can see inspirations from others supercars back in the days like Jaguar E-Type, Ferrari Daytona, Toyota 200GT and I think they achieved it with a very authentic personality

It’s iconic design, it has in my opinion the perfect lines despite being a sports car it has a lot of interior space very enjoyable to be inside, the driving position is perfect for a 70’s car which you can’t find in another car

Then of course the engine and it’s whole temperament which gives it’s personality. My love for the cars its from when I was very little, since I remember I love cars It always have been my passion, I started to drawing it from very young

And I tried to make from this passion my work and I design cars until today I always love this model and until here I only saw one in my entire life but this car came to my life in a curious way. I wasn’t looking for a Z and it basically came to me

One day, I came home and my father said that a friend of his is closing the workshop and selling all of his cars I didn’t gave much attention but still I asked for the list of cars after some days when I received the list I saw the 240z there

I didn’t hesitate and went straight up to see the car It was spectacular because I entered in a huge abandoned storage full of dust only with the Datsun in the middle waiting for me like a perfect scenery like in the movies

In the sunset with the lights coming from above, and the car alone almost asking me to take it home I couldn’t seat in the car, I said I would only seat in the car when I buy it. and after three months of a lot of anxiety and negotiation I could take it home!

To my surprise when I received the registration of the car I see that it is from the day of my anniversary If I had any intention of selling the car, in that moment it went completely away and this car became a keeper

And I will keep it in the family as long as I can and for the next generations if they have interest on that The car was pretty good in the exterior and the interior it is in the same condition as you can see now I didn’t had to do anything

The problem was in the mechanical parts, it was very degraded brakes were inexistent the tubes were welded the carburetors also didn’t worked the suspension were totally stuck basically it was a beautiful car but mechanically it was very bad I fixed the whole mechanical parts in the most original way

I want this car as stock as possible with just some performance and reliability upgrades brakes were totally reviewed, fuel injection, cooling, suspension, polyurethane bushings everywhere I place a 6 to 1 JapSpeed manifold so we can hear it, who has a car like this want to hear it.

The wheels are Rota, watanabe like, I think it is the wheel that fit better in this car Tires are semi-slick for better grip this a project in constant developing, it was almost 3 years of restoration and now finally is on the road

I don’t want this car to be a “Garage Queen”, and want to use it and use it well. I drive this car as much as I can, of course It has to be driven carefully because the car that it is and the price of it’s maintenance

But every weekend I like to drive it around as much as possible Its more for classic meetings or drive around the mountain basically every weekend and I hope to drive it whenever is possible I have some other cars, I have already driven various cars but this is something different

The driving feeling is very different, you feel special driving this car. It brings up every senses, you feel like a celebrity inside people reactions, many people stops to see, take pictures, tell stories with this car

What I feel is that people have a lot of affection for this car here in Portugal and in the whole world It deserves this affection because it’s a very special car

Well, this car has a peculiar personality, each time that I drive it I never know if I will come back with the car or in a tow. Because in this last three years, most of the times I came back in a tow You improve one thing, the other thing falls apart

And still to this day, this car always find a way to prank meand after five minutes everything is ok. I’d rather live in a garage than selling this car Its like a part of me maybe because it is from my birthday it makes this everything more special I don’t know

I’d rather selling every other car and only stay with this one because it is a car that fills me up I always dreamed about a Porsche, I always wanted to have a 911 but after driving this car I don’t want the Porsche anymore.
