let’s go straight to wake up the weeked when did you guys start working on the songs for the new album I guess it was quite after the tour in North America uh last year and we worked I guess almost one year for writing new songs and then we entered the studio so you can add on the studio time as well um that took us quite a long time and we were really focused on writing new songs um yeah and we’re super happy with the result and normally we can’t we aren’t able to write new songs when we are on on tour so we also yeah need some not free time about some time to focus on new songs and the song writing yeah and uh you know the first single 1589 um you know I was reading a bit about the story of it and it’s quite a bit of a GM story um can you tell me a bit more about how do you guys came up with the idea for for that one I mean 1589 that was the day or or the year when Peter stump the main actor of the story was sentenced to death and that was I mean one of the most famous German we trials we had back in the days and I guess all which and we Trials of this time were circumstantial based that means or if there was any circumstantial evidence at all we don’t know but in this time Peter stamp was considered to yeah that he killed several or several children and women and people and um yeah he was considered to be a rare that transformed from a human being into a wolf when he is wearing a belt or something like that and that was for the representatives of the church like sign of that this guy was sent by the devil and you can see it’s a it’s a gruesome story it’s really it’s really very detailed if you go deeper into that and that fits perfect really perfect in the in the cosmos of power wolf and so we decided to write a song about that and then we decided as well to create like a short movie like like a music to create a music video for that song um yeah and that is was 89 and we get really fascinated by that story um even the bloody execution for Peter D was was really tough back in the days um yeah that’s 589 the trials in Germany cologne bedor that was the region I was also visiting bedburg and it was raining the whole day and it feels really scary when I was there like like I’m on the path of Peter um yeah and when you saw the video you you can also feel the fear and everything and people were blaming someone is he guilty is he not guilty is it true is it superstitious is it is it just believing is it what is it no one knows and that’s really interesting for power yeah does Germany has a lot of um you know of those kind of you know stories with with trials because you know I always when I think about you know the Middle Ages so to say um I I always think more of you know England and what I never thought like Germany had you know I guess there’s a bit of those stories all over Europe but I I for some reason in my head it was always about UK yeah yeah or even about Eastern Europe I had the same expression is completely true um and then we found that story there is for example in in this area of of Germany there were a lot of twis like this famous one from Peter stump you even have there a hiking area you can walk on the path of pet stum and we were also a little bit surprised to find more hints in the liter lit in the History Literature literature sorry um I mean it’s perfect for us it was like like digging in in in books and and we find something and then we find that story um and it’s the same thing as you said we always expected the we mythology more in Eastern Europe or UK yeah uh and the reason we also did the video in theuk okay we even we don’t we didn’t do it in Germany so it was always considered to be there Scotland England Romania whatever um yeah but I don’t know we are happy to found that story and it was worth to to write about it um but you know we we are also entertainers we want to tell yeah exciting stories in our songs we are not like we are not history agents or something like that you know but we are particularly frate by such Legends like that of Peter stump um yeah Su anger and fear that’s that’s perfect in our in our world yeah and you know obviously that’s a long time ago but on these record you also go to characters that made an impact as well like Joan Joan noar you know and uh you know that’s you know very well-known story as well was that you know that kind kind of stories are really inspirational too and kind of fits power wolf like a glove yeah that is a good expression like a glove it fits like a glove um you you mentioned uh John of Arc I mean that’s that’s for example a very famous worldwide topic a lot of people are fascinated with John of Arc um and we had that that lyrics in mind already for years but we didn’t have a song so we worked we worked on the song what but which really fit on it and we read that the story of John of Ark first woman who was also in war that was not you know that was not typical back in the days and then you know the the King was against her and then she also burnt at the stake and then in the end it was she was a saint uh uh and people is fascinating by her Visions she had in quite in early days when she was 13 or something like that as you can see I read a lot about JN of Ark and now the time has come that we were able to write a song about that and as you said it fits perfect in the powerful Universe you have this mythologies you have these Legends and you have the sidekick of religion you know and that is that is perfect for power yeah and uh you know one of the songs that I also enjoyed quite a lot is was we don’t want to be to be no Saints especially with the children choir which is you know it was quite a nice touch how did that song develop we had the idea in mind to you know we don’t want to be no Saints like what can be put in a contrast like we had a sh choir like the symbol for Innocents and you know and combined it with our music and then we had this catchy song title and I guess nobody W really be a Saint I guess we all love to sin here and there especially on the power show um that was the reason to to bring this combination between the innocent kids and the choir stuff and and it fits so good I mean we we had that in mind and your fun Pro our producer said come on let’s let’s try it let’s just record a children choir and let’s see if it’s fit to to the song you know it was not like we a little bit how can we do that is it okay for heavy metal song and it fits so perfect it is so catchy at the beginning and in the middle and then you have the contrast in the the in the part in the part in the bridge yeah between the adult CH and the children crier and that was awesome I love that song and I’m quite sure that we’re going to play that song on in our life set and you know obviously you know children because you know again you said religion is is you know some is part of the power wolf you know all the whole concept of power Wolf the religion side and children choir are always related to church it is it is I mean I have a personal story about that I mean I I was grew I grew up really in the Catholic area of Germany and I was really I was on in church every Sunday and was interested in doing things and praying and confess and whatever I had to whole education stuff and then the priest asked me if I want to be in a in a choir in a church choir and I said no I hate it and that is quite the opposite thing now I love it that is you know I went to church back in the days and I I I like to to read in the Bible and something like that but but I was never in the choir in church choir or in a children choir um and now we I love to use it that’s a little bit strange but I can really remember the situation back in the days um so it’s it’s for me a little bit TR to my own history and was when you going to to the church on Sundays that you got the passion for playing you know keyboards and piano absolutely for me in my in my uh the the when I grew up church and the church organ was always very scary you know that was it’s opposite in power when we ENT the stage we have our metal Mass it’s pure happiness it’s adrenaline it’s it’s you know in a good mood my experience was in church always a little bit scary you have to be calm and you know don’t talk to your neighbor and whatever and then I was listening to the church over there and at the same time I started listening to heavy metal music and then I decided to learn that instrument no bass no guitar no drums that was a little bit strange but in the meantime I call it Destiny because now it fits perfect to the heavy meta music which is power is playing um but I never had a thought about to to learn another instrument like the guitar what is quite obvious in having metal music you know yeah um and it took a lot of time to find a band because back in the days that was not very popular to use keyboards or even trch organ in heavy metal music uh but yeah I consist on it and in the end everything is fine I’m doing that now for 20 years yeah so everything is good now yeah but not always but not always it’s just hard to find a brand then yeah and no you know power wolf is one of the biggest bands in Europe and in the world so uh you know I guess it just shows that if music is good anything can fit absolutely absolutely and I like I like that you’re saying that because if the music it it’s it’s good and people like it then luckily people love our music then it’s always good for a band what I want to mention we also use this visual elements the show concept the makeup everything but first thing is the music if you write shitty music you can use a lot of p and and Lightnings and everything no one is interested in if the songs are [ __ ] you are [ __ ] that’s it if you have good songs you can you know you can put him in a good in a good mood and you can add certain elements what we’re using on stage yeah but first of all good song that’s it yeah yeah you can paint [ __ ] the way you want but it’s still [ __ ] in exactly that is the expression what what I’m looking for yeah and you know another another song that really got the attention was Vore which is sort of a power ballad so to say it starts really know ballades and then it just you know goes to that power uh Power wolf traditional kind of a thing um how was this idea for vargam more and what is the song about by the way I mean it’s according to Legends the Vore literally means w mother in Swedish uh so to speak old woman living in the forest to dwell with wolvers and have Supernatural forces and uh has also the ability to transform a man into a with and you found it really interesting in the legend buildings that you didn’t find so many hints of that beside of the novel of benam Min Tor from 1851 it’s called lass in the Vore and in this book in the northern mythology you you can read about that uh a woman has super natural forces and transformed a man into a be and as you can see we love be mythology and and we like to find you mentioned uh uh UK and I’ve mentioned Eastern Europe and we find a lot of hints also in the Swedish mythology back in the days and this Vore but only one that’s quite quite funny um that shows you right now here and I’m honest we are nerds we are looking for that [ __ ] every day and uh then we found V more and then we decided what can we do with with such a song from the song title you would probably consider it as a song like uh Wes of Armenia or something like that but we did it another way around we did as you said like not really a ballot but like a little bit in that approach uh to yeah so you have a different approach with that song and I love love it to to to play it you know one of the things every time you guys put out an album It’s You Know listen to it songs are amazing how are you going to pick up a set list because you know there’s going to be yeah that’s a tough question I know because there is the songs that everybody wants to hear there are the songs that you guys love to play Live you know one’s probably more than other and with the new record I I think for me you know I personally it’s just a personal thing for me I don’t like when a band just plays one or two songs from a new record you know when they do to promoting that album I think it’s if there’s a new album you should play at least half of it in my opinion but you know that’s just me yeah I guess we have to sim point but you’re are completely right for example we have when we playing five songs from new album probably will do that it’s a surprise but it could be then you have to cut out some other songs and that is really tough one and I’m the responsible in the band I’m preparing the set list and I send it to the guys every time and it’s always a big discussion I mean it’s it’s a luxury problem it’s not you know it’s good to have that problem uh but it is really difficult which song you have to play which song you want to play and as you said you have new album and you really should play new songs um but you of course you have to play with drink your blood or of course you have to play sink with with dynamite I mean that are our hits it’s the same thing I always uh for example if you see the sets of Iron Maiden if you don’t play The Trooper then the set list sucks that it’s a must have um so it is really difficult and I always try to convince my band members to play more songs you know that I always add one more song than 20 songs or 21 or 22 but yeah don’t you know you can’t play 3 hours it’s it’s it’s even too long for everybody but it’s really tough and it’s it’s getting uh more difficult over the days and it’s even more difficult for example when you’re playing Festival shows when you have only whatever one hour play time yeah that is really tough one on your own headline show you can say come on yeah uh we have some spare time left we can add two songs more if you want to but in the festival situation that’s not possible but um to be honest I’m happy to be in that situation yeah it’s a good problem to have it’s it’s uh if we are on that point if that means we have finished the songw writing we recorded into album that is an easy problem to solve but yeah sometimes we have made hard decisions that’s true yeah and you know obviously with the album tour is coming soon um you know in October you guys are doing a big some big European shows with emmer fall and wind rose production wise are you guys already working on the stage is going to be new elements you know I’m actually I’m actually thinking going to Berlin for the show I need to get my [ __ ] together because I haven’t I I’ve seen you guys when you guys played it in Portugal but it wasn’t the big Power wolf show you know the one that I want to watch so I’m just thinking you guys are playing in Berlin Dream Theater playing a couple days after so I all right so so I have a you have you have a good trip there it’s a good thing I but it’s true I guess our new spright production is the biggest we had so far I mean the venues are even getting bigger and bigger and we playing now this Arena shows all over Europe and Paris I guess is already sold out Vienna sold out tickets are selling really fast and um we are also in Char of developing the look of the stage we not building it but we are in charge of how to how it look Lies We are planning some specific scenes like what can we do with the Pyro element with fire and everything with huge Le screens and everything we want to take the audience for an evening into the power with work um and we have great supports with us with hamone and windos I guess it is a special night for everybody body um and I’m really looking forward to playing the new songs live because that is always I’m I’m I’m super nervous playing new songs live for the first time I mean we we know the songs now for a long time we love the songs whatever we rehearsed it and then you go on stage and then you will play for the first time 5089 it’s oh my goodness how will it work how are the reactions how you know it’s it’s it’s uh but it’s great great to have it and I’m really looking forward to playing that show we start ear tour in end of August in La then as you said we come back to Europe uh and starting point is at the Bas arena in Hamburg and yeah and we will come back to S SN Europe as well I promise I will come back to Spain and Portugal and we had to play in Portugal as well I mean that’s I guess it was 2005 with G way we played the last no it was a festival in Port we play last time there yeah and exactly it was a flying show so you guys didn’t bring yeah exactly exactly we but we only played two shows in Portugal it’s not it’s it should be more yeah no yeah that’s you know that’s the thing you were mentioning screens um are you guys going to invest more on that um visual side because I’ll be honest one of the things that that I really enjoy is the huge backdrops Iron Maiden style old school you know change the backdrop I’m I love that kind of old school Vibe but um this I think that’s that’s approach when I can mention that because we want to deliver like like you said good backdrops with our strong cover art works and they can move here and there a little bit and we can enlarge it and we can use it more on state whatever but I don’t want to show a movie as a backdrop you know what I mean everybody’s watching a screen but there’s a band playing and we always want that the the LED walls and the whole scenery fits in the power that the band members are in this scenery with you with the fans and that we want to connect that’s very important for us but to be honest I hate this uh random video screens I see a lot of times now like like you like a window what is it Windows uh saver like what you have on your home desk and I want to see the band in the scenery not a video and then some people were jumping around that’s very important I can promise that’s that’s not going to happen that we will show you a video or something that’s good very good okay FK thank you very much for your time you know all the best for wake up the weeked I will annoy the Palm records when it comes to the Berlin show because I’m I’m really I really want to to do it I want to see like a proper power wolf show and like a big arena has to be done so it’s a great venue
