Mr trow what went down in your head the stars are in the sh listen to them to them Children of the Night Children of the Night what music in infa Bon how are you I’m good how are you everything is good good to see you again since in Portugal was the how was those summer shows with Camelot it was fun um the last ones were well in Barcelona in Portugal and uh and it was great festivals um nice people good atmosphere nice weather so it was a good way to finish the the festival season it wasn’t too warm for you no it was okay actually I I stayed in the shade a little bit Yeah but we played late we played late so it was it was fine yeah one I was at one in Portugal obviously and it was great to see you guys again and good to see you with the band as well you know it was it was a great show and uh you know let’s talk about the Beast the new infinum record um I have a bit of um I’m recovering from a yeah I got a bronchitis I’m recovering from it so if my voice disappears or I have to mute for coughing don’t don’t you know don’t worry too much anyway um listening to Abyss uh we can see a new side of add infinitum um a bit less symphonic but way focused on the songwriting and the songs um um what’s from the GetGo from the beginning when you start working on the new songs that you wanted to follow that direction of being more let’s say straightforward band um we we you know when we wrote the the the the previous record we kind of uh felt like at some point we added some symphonic elements because we were we were we qualified as a symphonic metal band but some parts maybe didn’t make more much sense or didn’t bring anything to the the the the music the way uh in in the way that that adds value and this time we said we will only add symphonic elements or like organic instruments if if the song needs it and also because um well simply we we we sat down and we were like okay what do we like to do and listen to and play right now because it makes no sense to do the same as we did for the first record if that’s not what we want to play on stage right now and we all you know we all evolved as people as musicians and our um our influences changed and and the way we write changed and it just made more sense like this we just thought you know we instead of trying to fit in a box we will just uh let our imagination uh Run free yeah and it works you know I’m surprised how good the songw writing is on these records um the songs are really good and you know I took note of four songs from me that were the Highlight when I I just listen to the album once so I I pick up four songs that I think are the highlights Euphoria parasite my halo and surrender oh well we just really surrender yeah so that was really exciting because it’s a it’s a song that is um definitely a special one for if you know what we’ve released before uh that’s not something people expect and um and we were very um uh excited to release this one because it’s very it it was like equally uh exciting and frightening because um it starts very Poppy and then it there’s this big drop and and if people don’t have uh the patience they will not they will just be like oh the they they left metal and but we we just want you know we we like this this um thth wve Vibe and to go a little softer and then add some Dynamics and that’s what we’ve done for the whole album we’ve added lot more a lot more Dynamics different sound sounds um we’ve really played around do you think there is um you know when it comes to music there should be any boundaries or are you one you a believer that try it as much as you like I mean as long as it makes sense and that someone does it with taste and with with skills you know uh I would not um take an alorn and try something because I’m curious about how it would sound or then an accordion or whatever but something that is true to to ourselves is always right in my opinion um if um if for example if you take Within Temptation there was also a shift in their sound at some point it was the I don’t remember if it was Hijra or yeah I think it was this one um where they started to implement more um electric elements and more like modern elements and step away from the symphonic like purely symphonic sound and I really feel like if that’s something that appeals to a band where it still feels like okay this is us then there’s no reason not to do it because the the main people you’re writing music for is yourself y yeah and but you know on that subject when you when you get this more modern approach you know you have old school people people that will say that oh this sounds too modern or whatever it is you guys are not afraid to exclude you know fans from the music you make you’re not worried about any of that you know I’ve been doing this for long enough to know that whatever we do there will be unhappy people we released our first album and some people said that we didn’t invent anything it’s been done so many times before we reinvented ourselves people were like the first album was much better and then we we shift it to something different and there’s both some people who say this is your best work so far this is really you this is this is like where you shine and some people who still uh say that we’ve never written something as good as our first record so there’s never going to be one song that’s going to please everyone so like I said uh might as well please ourselves yeah I mean one I believe in honesty you know and when artists are honest with themselves with the music they’re making I think that will transpire to The Listener you know if you’re doing something that you don’t believe in I mean some people more than others can smell you know the BS yeah but when I listen to ays I I saw and heard you know a full band uh committed grown musically songwriting wise it’s a very cisive record from start to finish and thank you you know I don’t mind at all even though I’m very I’m old and I’m old school when it comes to music but I love these take with music you know the Dynamics as you were mentioning on the music the certain electronic element that drop here and there it’s very interesting and captivating and I know I have friends that probably will listen to one of these songs and say it’s not for me but you know I I was very happy listening to this record I think you guys are you know I’m not sure if you found your sound yet but I think you’re on the right path thank you well like you said I I want to highlight something you said some people will say it’s not for me and that’s totally fine and there’s some people who’ve been following us since the beginning and they loved everything and the evolution and they sort of traveled with us and then there are some people who said well I’ll just continue listening to the first three records and that’s fine um the line that’s very often crossed is some people who don’t like it and say this is [ __ ] and this is where I always you know it’s funny because I was talking about it today my grandmother once said um it’s not because you don’t like the dish in front of you that it qualifies as disgusting yeah it’s just not for you yeah yeah I I believe that you know it’s we don’t I mean we don’t have to like everything you know would be boring if we all like the same you know that would absolutely there would be nothing new nothing creative nothing inventive if we all stick to the same and it’s good to see these evolution in a band especially as I said I think it really comes from the heart from you guys because we can listen to it and see that it’s a band that is enjoying doing it because if you didn’t you know we could hear it yeah we love it we have so much fun actually the guys are coming to my place in just a few days to write more we love doing this and we have so much fun so you when did you start writing for uh for the ABS when did the songw writing started so we had a few demos uh during 2023 but it’s really in December 2023 that we gathered and we started working properly on those demos and then we gathered again uh I think it was in February uh 24 to finish as much as possible before getting to the studio yeah um when you finished you know those demos do you have a clear idea of the album is going to sound like you know you are confident going to the studio that says like we have something really good in our hands uh usually yes um we we when we create demos they sound very close to let’s say 75% to the final result because it’s a good way for us to really picture the album and then of course there’s the extra 25% that happened in the studio um because you know everything is played better stay better um and we add the extra little icing on the cake but yeah it’s it’s very it’s very close to a final result and usually we’re we have a pretty good idea but we’re always nervous as as hell when we get to the studio because we want to do our our best when when it comes to your to your vocals um normally are you confident in doing like a first take or sometimes you need more than that to to achieve a result I I always do more than that I don’t believe in first a wonders because um except in a live uh live recording situation of course but in the studio you know the more takes you like you start it’s like it’s like how can I describe it’s like going to the the gym and warming up you start with the if you want to lift some weight you will start with your warm up weight and then you will get like build up and it’s the same for me in the studio I start to sing and I get familiar with the line and then I’m like oh I could put some emotion here and some accentuations there and oh you know what I have a little idea for a little ear candy there so I I do like a few takes and then I get comfortable with it and it gets also you know in terms of pitch it gets more comfortable more like it sits in the right place so yeah it’s it’s it’s some work yeah you know I I I mention this sometimes because I remember watching the an interview with Billy is and FAS the way they record and you know I have a bit of um you know OCD when it comes to certain things and they were talking about just you know recording like a word they they she would sing let’s say a sentence and they would just take a word out of it and she would have to sing again and take another word and he was explaining all the process and I was just getting like I was getting like stop it you know just sing once and that’s it for you do you like to take those words one that you think going to take that no that is really good not that not that much I’m not that hardcore with like Precision or or or N I don’t think it’s Precision it’s more like Obsession for Perfection or perfectionism um no usually but there it happens sometimes that we have like uh a mix of several takes because oh my God the beginning of this one was so good but the end was not that great but we have a great ending on that one and then for example I record with Jacob and he’s very um um you know focused also on pronunciation because English is not my my native Native language and um he will say okay we have a good take but this word you sing it wrong every time so we redo the entire take and you focus on that word and then you know things like that it happens yeah yeah I you know when I when I saw that Billy Alish interview I started to get very anxious to way they were doing all that recording process and you know it was a bit too much but you know it works you know for some people and I think it’s done more than we can imagine probably in the studio with some bands you know not every band but you know I think it’s something that happens and you know when it comes to the album is coming out got a tour got some shows with Camelot in October and then uh next year in January February some more shows uh what are the plans after the those already announced shows T more without infinitum trying to play as much with is new record yeah absolutely we would like to go back to America for example because we had a great time this year meeting for the first time the fans there and also enjoying just you know being in America and the all the different Landscapes and Al it was a great time um and of course at some point we would love to do um our own headline tour which we’re talking about but it’s not like set and stone yet so that’s this and hopefully more festivals so yeah definitely no rest at the moment do when it comes to touring you you guys feel the pressure of you know a lot of bands say it’s expensive to go on tour fans complain ticket prices are you know a bit High um for a band like at infinum what is the the situation of you know playing live is it still difficult to you know to make something out of of a touring situation um it’s um it’s I mean it’s not easy like it it’s not easy for for most bands but um we can we make it happen because well we’re managing the you know it’s not like you take uh one day at a time you you look at the whole year and you make some Financial plans of course and then we’re looking enough to have wonderful fans who buy a lot of merch and this honestly it it helps so much much because um even though you know there’s been a lot of talks about venues taking Cuts Etc still uh there’s been a few tours where we made it past the the threshold of of you know making a plus because of the merch so this is something that is that is wonderful because so far we’ve never been in a situation where we’re like oh this is bad how are we going to pay all this because you know we have all the technicians the bus the the gas the everything to pay but so far we’ve been very lucky and so yeah as much as we can we will go on yeah and you know you you you were mentioning you know how you guys evolved musically when it comes to musical influences as well what is normally on your playlist when you go for a walk when you go to the gym or when you just at home what normally do you like to listen to on your you know Apple music Spotify whatever platform I listen to so much stuff like right now um I have a mix of uh Bring Me The Horizon du ala bad Omens Olivia Rodrigo uh what else um yeah there’s lots of metal bands and there’s lots of pop music and I guess you can hear it in the in the album abys um and I really believe that it’s because artists are open to uh listening to all sorts of music that they can bring new influences into metal and not just you know heavy metal all the way since uh a few decades yeah you know I again I have friends that will disagree with you when it comes to that that’s fine you know I you can still have a beer with together yeah still have fun and have a healthy conversation about music I think it’s more important than just being you know annoyed because you you know I I can see you know the success of a band like bring me the eyes and and trying to talk with those old school fans that they say why the band is so successful and I just asked you’re good yeah I just tell them just go watch the show you know go watch the show and then you realize you know why you know they are big as they are now it’s not difficult just watch their shows and again might not be for you but when you see the live show you realize that something’s special there and yeah you know that’s what fans like and you know cannot run away from it you know I love that you mentioned their show because I just saw them at grass poop and I was blown away by their show and like exactly like you said whether you like it or not that kind of music I I love it personally but whether whether you like it or not you have to acknowledge what they’re achieving there yep you know when if you’re honest yeah when I when I saw their live show it’s you know I mean you cannot fault the guys and say they’re you know they suck or anything it’s a great it’s a great show it’s a you know everything happens for a reason on that on that show and you know and it’s amazing really and and the energy is so positive it’s not like arrogance and you know it’s just like so positive I had such a great experience and such respect for them even more after this show yeah and you know for you as a singer when did you realize you know I want to be a singer or that just happened I started wanting to be a singer when I was listening to britness Spears when I was a child um but but my parents was like were like can you pick something more realistic so I can went away from this dream and then went back to it when I realized no wait it’s actually possible so yeah it’s uh it’s something that started pretty early I don’t remember maybe I was I don’t know when did she release uh hit me baby one more time I don’t know around that time yeah you know I have a story with Britney Spears not with her but I had you know those flip phones uh from no and um I had the toxic ringtone because because I love that music and yeah and I was doing an interview with Dave mustain and I forgot to turn off the phone oh oh that’s that’s a good one that’s a good one and someone just calls and the the cars of toxic just blab on the phone and that was just I I I was what did he say he just look at me he didn’t say anything I was trying to make excuses I don’t know what I said but you know I was just so embarrassed that you know it’s Dave mustain you don’t have problem I don’t think he Minds I don’t I think I was more you know more minding and more embarrassed than he he was you know at the end of the day but you know it was yeah I love that toxic from Britney Spears from it’s one of those songs that you know it’s a great great pop song You Know cannot for sure you know it’s a great track anyway Melissa thank you very much for your time all the best for adum and the b um I’m going to be in Germany actually in October I’m not sure if I can make it to the show in Berlin I’m going to be in Berlin for a few days but I’m doing the power wolf show on and the Dream Theater show which are very very close dates so I’m just looking at the calendar you guys play on the 15th in Berlin so I’m just thinking is it worse to you know take a few more days and go a bit before and watch Camelot in another infinum I think so maybe maybe I I mean I would be I would be a very bad uh uh singer if I would say no but I guess ultimately you will be the one telling us if it was worth it if you come yeah you know I’m I’m really I think it would be worse to spend probably a whole week in Berlin anyway you know just stay away from home and enjoy concerts because that week in Berlin it’s absolutely Madness there is shows every day happening and I’m you know I’m not sure if it’s a good idea to it is a good idea it’s always good idea to watch uh concerts anyway but you know I’ll see I’m I’m actually very much looking to those dates and my go probably a couple days earlier to try to catch you guys again because you know I’m a huge Camelot fan and uh you know I want to see at infinitum as well you know live so we’ll see we’ll see okay then let us know if you’re coming and uh so maybe see you soon if I’m there I’ll be in the pit with my camera as I was in the you probably don’t remember but I was the guy on the stage taking photos in Portugal yeah I was I mean now that you say it I connect yeah but yeah I’m a big you know I’m a huge Camelot fan and so I might do that you know I’m crazy enough to do that and spend a whole week in Berlin anyway Melissa thank you very much for your time all the best for ad infinum and uh hope to see you soon all right yeah see you soon thank you much have a great day thank you bye record night terror sing dream theer ice 9 KS children the night he will live through the centuries to come as I have lived good night good night
