[Music] [Music] Mr trow what went down in your [Music] head the stars are in the sh [Music] listen to them to them Children of the Night Children of the Night what music [Music] [Music] [Music] records global global hello hello hello BJ how are you I’m doing fine how are you everything is good been all right all right been busy yeah we we got got off work really recently but but I I’ve had time to drink some some water and re resettle myself that’s good and you know before we talk about uh debut album from arctis um how did the band started let’s go a bit back how have you guys been working on music so how long have you guys exist as a band yeah uh first all I will join really soon so I think she’s she’s about to join because uh she wanted to be part of this too but yeah the question how long we have been playing together I started playing with the drummer Mika in 2004 or something like that so we’ve been playing for 20 years together at this point and uh Michael the other guitarist joined you I think 2011 or something like that so he’s been around for like 13 14 years soon ala joined in 2016 I think she she started to be in the same band as us but but um we chose to to start arctis because the album we made with the former B and became so different so it felt like a good idea to you know to to start with fresh and uh yeah Build It Up from the from the foundation otherwise you know so that’s how we came to be arcst cool and Alva has joined us hello hello hello how are you you sorry for being a few minutes late it’s okay we are in no rush at the moment so it’s fine no I was just talking with bjn to to have an idea when the band started so uh you know because the album is coming out but I just want to have an idea how long I’ve been trying to make music and work in a band so uh it’s been a while and taking a bit long to make a debut record uh you probably misunderstood me that was the old band the old band yeah but we started with arctis in 200 18 okay well six years yeah but the co happened so we didn’t release anything Yeah Yeah we actually had like music ready but we waited so this album is kind of old to us because it’s like it’s been a few years since we were done with it actually yeah but yeah a lot of things happened in between and and we wanted to wait for the right moment when everything was up and running and we were able to get a a label and stuff because it was not that easy right after covid yeah was like what’s happening now with this industry and so on yeah not easy to be a new band then and you know one of the things is sometimes bands tend to rush to get a record deal and I mean just any record deal not like a trying to wait for a good label they just want to you know find whatever label it’s you know is available to release an album and that’s it and sometimes they don’t think much about you know the future or anything but you guys had a song um I’ll give you hell that um you know at as over now five million streams uh did it surprise you the reception the song got when you guys first put it out because you know that started to get some attention from fans and probably the label start to oh wait there’s a band here that as a song that’s you know making numbers did that surprise you I don’t know know how many streams we got at the moment but I’m I’m really really happy to see that people like it that’s that’s fun to see and we’ve had really some great comments and everything so we we’re really happy about that did you say 5 million streams over where did you get that from uh that was the press release that they sent and he said over 5 million streams so it’s probably it’s probably they probably joined all the numbers from streaming platforms and you know they got to that number which you know I believe if they say I believe okay that too that sounds interesting uh yeah I’ve seen other numbers but let’s see I haven’t spoken to them now for a while well I hope don’t put them in trouble or anything like that anyway so you guys were farming 2018 so you guys had how long have you guys had this album done you know you mentioned Co and you know waiting for the right time so how long exactly have you guys finished the whole record since it was quite steep Lear earning curves I would say this album took like two and a half years to make but uh but we learned a lot you know on the journey so it will be a lot faster now in the future because we don’t have to invent the real again yeah it happened a lot of stuff we we didn’t have like a fast pace many times because we were actually like we had to learn so much during that time so yeah we’re definitely faster now we could like an album out now it’s like night and night and day what we’ve learned through all these years and um and yeah I think actually the the album was like done already three years ago like really so the album I think the album was done in June 2020 or something like that because that’s when it was mastered but oh but yeah it’s the the way it is you know it doesn’t really make sense to release anything during a pandemic yeah yeah it so it you know so you guys already had time to make another record yes yeah we’re doing it right now yeah yeah we were busy during the pandemic we were writing songs when you guys were you know the album has been done like let’s say four years now three years um when you guys look at the at the songs you guys ever feel tempted to change anything you know add another thing you does your brain works like that that you’re never happy with how the song is done in a in a way you you always hear that that could have been done different but you have to sometime you just have to leave it you know and accept what it is you know it’s like that song turned out like that I know I can do better today but I’m still proud and happy over that yeah I rather move on and uh write even better songs for the ne next album then try to think that oh we need to to do some reproduction and mix that again and stuff like that I’m it is what it is like it’s a part of the journey it doesn’t have to be perfect I’ve learned much more since that and I’m very pleased with what we’ve done like really really so yeah won’t I won’t change anything I don’t think I would change anything either listening to it you know it sounds sounds really good you know it’s you you guys are going to tour with apocalyptic and uh you know I was just thinking because you know I know Apocalyptica since the first day you know they played in Portugal was probably I think the first place they actually sold out like an big place and they always been coming here and I actually saw them recently anyway but and their crowd and their fans are a bit more traditional because of the Metallica thing and you know you guys have a more modern approach there’s a bit more pop elements in the music which you know old school fans not all I’m old but you know I have a more open mind than a lot of them anyway but some of them are really you know not open when it comes to hearing some pop elements or a bit more modern elements in the band so you guys are going on this tour are you guys ready to face and to try to conquer a crowd that might not be you know ready for all these new elements we’re getting ready yeah like we’re doing it right now but I think one of our great weapons is that we’re going to have a lot of energy on stage and also the songs will sound a bit different live they will defin definitely sound like more more heavy I would say because uh like production on an album is something and when you do it live you’re going to really hear kind of the the most important things and some things might go away a bit so I would definitely say that we we get more fans with the live show actually I think the music will yeah it might sound better actually like at least for the Apocalyptica fans I say you know because you know I asked that because it’s known you know there’s some bands like Canan Maiden for instance you know every time they would bring you know a band that was a bit different you know I remember when they had Fel for a friend Trivium as well in the beginning and the fans would just not care at all about them you guys are afraid of that or that doesn’t cross your mind I don’t want to put any fears because I’m sure times have changed now but P do you have any you know fear of you know seeing people looking at you on stage and saying like what the hell is happening there no I’m not afraid of that I’m not just afraid that our iners will [ __ ] up or something like that that’s the only fear I have I also don’t really fear the the audience like we will have a good time on stage and if they don’t want to be part of it what can we do we just try to get them they go have a beer or something you know instead yeah that might help them anyway to to enjoy the the rest of the show more I mean they have a beer or two so three or four you know don’t go overboard with it anyway and going back to the going back to the record lyrically um what was the inspiration or what topics were you guys want you to bring for this first records it’s a it’s actually a lot of the songs circulate around around self realization and freedom and finding your way in the world so that these are like the biggest themes we have it’s like you have songs like no slave which is an you could call it an atheistic Anthem you know in that sense because it’s it’s really about having the sensation of being free or Breaking Free I would say that’s the big red thread for the album there’s nothing religious hidden in that song I just had to point out yeah it’s about having your your own master so to say yeah is it a music it’s a good way to express and to help you know mental struggles because we all go through you know those times where we doubt ourselves where you know we question everything what the hell are we doing here why is this happening to me why you know we all have these questions does music helps you know you know overcome those thoughts so to say yeah and I think it’s even more powerful when you actually write about something you struggle with because you kind of get power over that bad thought or that bad thing happening in your life yeah I would say yeah it’s been a good therapy so to say it’s good therapy yeah actually like a few of them is a bit personal uh like U we have two songs that deal a bit uh with um bad people people that has tried to fool us or not believed in us or something um so we did right about that bad experiences and and I mean you got to point out Frozen’s because fro one is like actually about us living in a small town and where we don’t want to get stuck but we’re going to really um yeah try our wings try try our wings and like don’t get stuck there yeah and yeah watch our own path it’s funny that you mentioned Frozen Swan because that’s the song I picked as my favorite on the album so awesome I think it’s a beautiful song it’s a great great song There is some good energy in it and uh energy in the you know in the sense that it makes you feel good and I I really enjoyed Frozen Swan it was for me the highlight of the record apart from all those high energy high intensity songs that you have as well but Frozen Swan was highlight for me on the album so yes yes it’s really emotional to me that song and it really like you can really picture like a frozen ocean and just standing there with all your emotions about breaking free and and not listening to bad [ __ ] and stuff like that yeah cool and you know Finland you know pretty much like Sweden and Norway you know is known for the metal bands you know what is it that makes you guys want to make music is the long Winters the long nights what is the what drives you guys to make and you know it’s great bands you know you know right here for instance another great band from Finland but what what is you know the drive in those countries for you know people to make music well yes we have long Winters and dark Winters they’re cold but we also have very light Summers so it’s very extreme you don’t really get used to anything you know you’re used to the cold and suddenly you have summer and it’s like 35 degrees hot you know and you’re not used to that and it’s light all the time then it gets dark and cold then you do that a couple of times and then it get [ __ ] in the head and then you start making to express that [ __ ] up state of mind so that’s why when you start writing songs or writing songs that you wish you were somewhere else oh yeah if you have guys you know be somewhere else you know I’m from Portugal I’m used to very warm Summers Winters are not that cold at least where I live you know it’s pretty mild to be honest we don’t have snow at least here in Lisbon you know I only seen when I went abroad to another country I never exper erience like proper snow here in Lisbon but do you think you guys could adjust to let’s say a country like Portugal where it’s like crazy hot you know do you think you could adjust to that I think it’s too late for us we have to stay up here you know in the north you know it’s it’s a part of us now you know if we move somewhere we’ll probably stop writing music and just enjoying great food and you know culture oh just go swimming all the time yeah swimming and chilling all the time so I think I think we have to stay here so we can have a career but when you guys are established enough and you know crazy Rich because you know every rock and roll band gets crazy rich as we know maybe can move to you know to a warmer country or something you know when that happens I don’t know it’s just yeah I think it’s just a matter of you know I think you get used to if you don’t let if you don’t let things get too much in your head I think you can just adapt to it I mean you guys survived for many many years you know in those countries so you you cannot all come South because yeah it’s actually like a bit funny because every Autumn I get like this anxiety that oh no so many months ahead that it’s going to be just darkness and how am I going to survive on until the next summer but although like I wouldn’t move to a warmer country because I don’t want to live without that that anxiety it seems no but really I just love the the seasons we have like it’s some kind of Melancholia that I just want in my life but that’s really only a thing that could say like this yeah and it helps you guys create great music so stay there don’t if you guys want to come leave here you’re all welcome that’s what I normally say anyway you know everybody is welcome you know to just enjoy life because that’s what we want at the end of the day so with with the album coming out and with this tour with um Apocalyptica what can you expect after this tour from you guys you guys already said you’re working on your music um what are the plans for 2025 yes we’re working on new music and we will I think we will go and play a bit more actually after this but I can’t say anything more than that because nothing’s really confirmed but but we are looking to play a bit more you know next year so I’m excited yeah and the new music we kind of want to be a bit fast with the next album so it might be around the corner at some point would you think it makes it would make sense if you guys were done writing you know enough songs for an album to put it out at the end of next year let’s say would that make sense for you guys oh perhaps we’ll see we’ll see what what we come up with our secret it’s just this thing when you can’t say really much yeah yeah I mean after you finish an album 3 years ago I’m sure there is already enough music to make another record unless you guys were just sitting at home doing nothing and watching Netflix you know I don’t think we have we have a lot of stuff so we’re really gonna we’re gonna like how do you say it uh oh My English like you want to work fast enough because it’s been so slow before so now we’re going to work FAS just to get those years back so to say yeah and then next year you know more shows are you guys planning you know the summer festivals because that’s always a big you know opportunity for bands to play all in Germany ven you know Summer Breeze and then you have alest uh and whatever download in UK blood stock all those great festivals are you guys planning to do the summer festivals next year as well yeah we have some festivals that we are we are currently speaking with so there there’s going to be something yeah so let see hoping for more you know it’s it’s kind of strange and I know you guys know something but you cannot tell anything I can sense the frustration as well like I know there’s something there but they cannot yet because it’s not set in stone damn it I know I just want to spit it out like this and this and this and this yeah but the to with apocalyptic it’s coming soon so you guys will be able to go on the road see the fans reaction and you know I think after that you know time is going to fly by and when you realize you’re probably on another tour and ready to put another album out or something so we’ll see looking forward to see you guys in Lisbon I’ll be there at the at the concert in Lisbon B Alva thank you very much for your time all the best for arctis um as I said I’ll in Lisbon so let’s see if you guys are aier live and I’m just looking forward to see the people’s reaction when you guys go up on stage I think they’ll be surprised you know I was just saying that about the fans but you know I know now in 2024 they’re a bit more open-minded than they were 20 years ago so we will see we will see we’re very curious and excited about it cool thank you very much have a great day all the best for the debut album and uh I’ll see you in Lisbon all right yeah thank you so much thank you very much have a great day thank you bye bye bye bye bye [Music] records [Music] [Music] for Global [Music] Children of the Night you will live through the centuries to come and I have left good night good night
