Mr trow what went down in your head the stars are in the sh listen to them to them Children of the Night Children of the Night what music with tempt for Temptation how are you Sharon okay great hi is everything okay yes fine thank you came from the gym working out very good was a good session was a good workout yes it’s a bit heavy but a bit sweaty you’re just getting ready for the tour yeah yeah we have to be in shape right so very good and uh you know you already played a couple shows uh in the Netherlands how did those shows go really well those were uh with smaller a bit smaller venues also for us more to warm up and to get into the into the music and uh so we can focus on everything else when we are doing the other shows and it’s going to be bigger venue so yeah and get yeah just get into the tour Vibe again that’s where the two First shows were uh mainly for and also to try out some songs in what order works best and stuff like that so yeah it was nice was really nice cool so you already have the set list um kind of fixed for the tour yes it is it is uh more or less fixed but we have some changes here and there as we have Tara as a guest vocalist at certain shows she will be at onethird of all shows so that’s pretty much actually uh we had hope to take her of course on tour on every show but she was already um doing her own shows elsewhere some places so it became onethird of the tour and we have some other um surprises of course which are our support acts uh one if is and is okay and we have blind Aid so um and we did collaborations with them as well so we might do something with them as well on stage so it’s going to be a nice combination of a lot of musicians um getting on stage with each other so I’m looking forward to that cool and uh you guys are playing in Portugal November 25th and November 26 was already sold out the 26 show so besides those surprises what can fans expect from the new Within Temptation show I think a lot of magic in the way that how it visually looks it’s going to be for a lot of people something new they haven’t seen from us um in this way I guess and it’s um and like I said a lot of interaction of of people joining each other in in songs and uh participating with each other it’s going to be a full night of a lot of cool music I think and uh yeah a lot of magic and uh that having having said that um I also have to note that we’re not sure sure yet if blind a is able to make it because two of them have been summoned to come uh join the Army and this week um I hope we gonna hear it this week because actually they have to leave tomorrow on the bus if they want to make it in time so uh it’s like five minutes before 12 hopefully we hear any minute now that they are able to come so it’s a yeah that’s going to be a challenge yeah and uh you know stage wise for you guys um are you guys going to use screens uh backdrops what is you know without revealing too much uh what can we see on stage you know as far as all those crazy lights and stuff like that no it’s going to be if like you’re in a cathedral that’s the only thing I can say okay it’s gonna be really big yeah that’s it’s gonna be yeah um big in a way magical in the baby not like like too much of everything but more like very atmospherical cool and uh you know in a recent interview you you mentioned that um that you guys lost followers you know every time you put a post supporting you know human rights uh when I say human rights when when I mean it’s the lgbtq I Plus for me it’s human rights you know as a whole because we are all humans at the end of the day um do you think it’s still important for a band to have a a voice when it comes political views human rights War it’s important to have a voice well you know we wrote a whole album A lot of our music is about freedom and we’ve always written about freedom in different from different perspectives from like history perspective with ar Salam hour which is about second world war a lot of songs in in our time when we started with the band we’re about second world war and um although we have never been that expressive but always with the idea that you know things will change you know we saw a you know um things getting better in society at a certain time that people were more tolerant and now it’s going the other way around and that made us feel like okay if we’re going to be expressive about it it needs to be now also because it’s not changing it’s getting worse and and I think it’s always good to have to be a voice because these are the minorities in society that always get you know a lot of um things to deal with they already have a hard time and I think I really do believe in the policy of that the the stronger should you know defend the weaker and not not meaning like they’re physically weak or something but more they’re minority and not the majority they’re already an exceptional group and um yeah I don’t know the last few albums we have been writing more about the current situation and felt like if we write about it we need need to be also explaining what the songs are about in interviews and being more expressive what we stand for and um so that’s that’s why we’re doing it now and sometimes it’s a bit of a selective um activism which a lot of people also point out to us like you know you don’t say about this group anything but there’s so much going on in the world you know you can talk about the minorities in um in China you know the people that are captivated there you can talk about what’s happening in South America a lot of you know a lot of countries are having problems with their uh government and things are you know there’s so many political things going on and we’ve just taken some subjects now that are about certain things that inspired us while we were in the studio although we have an appoint you know an point of view of that as well of course because we’re very much engaged about politics in general also worldwide not just in our own country and but it’s um I think we have to take some kind of uh points that you are really well you were inspired by writing music about and that I think mainly that we’re you know talking about now but of course if people ask us about certain things how we look at things we will answer that as well yeah but it’s more like yeah you have to focus on certain things like if you do everything then it doesn’t come across as I don’t know um how do you say it um not honest but more right or something I know yeah you know and do you think social media is partially responsible for the backward steps that Society is taking these days when I mean social media I think even the news channel channels the way they focus on just you know certain things and they extrapolate you know some stuff especially when it comes to you know far right extremist I mean every time one of those politicians open their mouth there’s always a microphone there you know in instead of leaving them speak to whever they want to speak you know there’s always a microphone there giving them you know a stage that they actually don’t deserve you know no yeah I totally agree with you I think it’s social media at one side because everybody can be a star on like uh any kind of social media kind of platform and they can if if they just you know you see a lot that people if people just um well but I think mostly where it starts to be honest and now I’m thinking about it is like I think it starts on top with our own government people from politicians if they are very easy to a polarized the world or polarized Society you see that that it becomes a kind of abnormal to um to attack minorities or uh immigrants or you know a lot of people who are already uh vulnerable and if we start normalizing that then we as normal people Society think it’s normal to do that as well and it’s also with social media that it’s become common or okay is because it’s anonymous because people are hiding behind their screen and just writing the most awful things about each other that they would never probably say in someone’s face because it feels safe to do that and that’s it’s really yeah it’s really stupid and hypocritical and but yeah that’s how it works nowadays apparently um as long as people will be anonymous on the internet people get get away with it I think yeah and I think the you know there was the old saying of divide and conquer or divide to conquer and that seems to be really The Stance of those far right you know political parties because that’s really what they do they they try to divide you know people’s opinion you mention immigrants it’s something that happens here in Portugal with the far right count saying they’re here to take you know our jobs they taking you know they getting all the houses they get you know and it’s it’s so stupid you know you don’t flee you don’t flee a country because you know I wouldn’t consider living Portugal If it wasn’t an extreme situation you know and for people to to flee a country because there’s a war or because they’re being attacked you have to respect and accept those people and understand why they’re coming to your country and all you have to do it’s try to help them and feel integrated in society and the problem is when those people come a lot of you know people don’t embrace them and see them as enemies of sort and I don’t understand that you know I me neither yeah I totally agree with you yeah you know it’s I just I you know I get so annoyed these days with those issues and you know we’re talking about you know gay lesbian trans they’re just people they want to live their lives they just want normal life like anyone else exactly they just want to be happy and accept it it’s already difficult enough for them to you know be who they are I guess because like I said they’re in the minority and that’s never that never feels safe when you’re in a very minority kind of group I guess yeah and then you have those stupid people saying why don’t we have like straight Pride well because they have that thing every day you you know you don’t you don’t have a problem you know you’re not you’re not look down you’re not treated differently because they don’t know what it’s like they have no idea there they’ve been having their normal life for forever and they feel threatened by people who aren’t different from themselves yeah which they don’t recognize themselves in and yeah and it’s it’s almost contagious how they think because yeah people just think it’s a nice way to I think people a lot of lot of people are frustrated by a lot of things yeah that aren’t real you know like um like for in our in our country I’m not sure how it’s in Portugal but we have a housing problem and because we have housing problem and there’s immigrants coming who are fleeing their country because there’s a war like you said most of them are and of course you have also people who come to work but there a SE group of course and um we also need those people actually because we don’t have enough people and the only real problem there is is that we don’t have enough houses and that’s because of the fact that we have too much farmers who make too much uh you know um that we have to do for the European un Union we have to have certain um um we can’t have too much how do you say it um well um you can produce you cannot produce too much of a certain it’s either milk or fruit or vegetables no it’s more like what they with with the with with um when they have to uh I don’t know what what what the English word for it is stick sto we say it’s like what you get from where there’s too much over production of um uh of um cow and stuff like that if you have too much of that and we have too much animals then it gets into the air and everything and into water it is it’s polluting everything that’s the thing and we have certain restriction we have to hold on to from the EU yeah and that’s why we can’t build anymore because that gives the same kind of reaction to the environment and so that’s the real problem they should solve the problem that that that we should actually have less cows and we should have more houses and we should so not the immigrants are actually not a real problem but people are wanting to have a scapegoat a black sheep they can point at all the time so they can they don’t have to deal with the real issues which and it’s also like you said confi um divide and conquer just let them believe that there’s a problem which is not and so they can do their way because our government is trying to go around uh our own governments you know like trying to get through with certain kind of law was to get their their goal succeeding and which is normally they have to vote in in the government over certain issues and they’re trying to go around it now like these kind of things that’s that’s that’s very dangerous yeah yeah you know it is complicated and then you mentioned the EU and people you know kind of blame the European Union for a lot of things I know it’s not perfect but I think that’s one of the best things that happen you know for for me at least for for Europe was European Union in the sense of you know free circulation you know free market in the sense I I know again it’s not perfect but it’s much better than it was before and it helped a lot of countries like Portugal for instance to develop a bit more and you know and people just trying to you know bring down you know what was a really peaceful you know through you know many many years of Peace you know I don’t know it just baffles me that we don’t learn enough with history and we keep making the same shitty mistakes over and over again just because there’s people in power that are greedy you know it’s so yeah greedy for more power and yeah totally yeah and you know let’s talk about music again because you know I don’t mind talking politics but we don’t want to the interview to be just to about politics just to this even though it’s important you know yeah very important totally I agree you know it’s important for people just to have an idea because don’t believe everything you read try to do your research you know you know learn a bit more it’s you can have can never have enough of learning and and studying a bit anyway but you know last year you guys released bleed out um are you guys thinking about new music yet are you just going to focus on touring touring you know for the next couple of years uh no we’re going to write a new album again and we we are going to take our time for it because we have been so busy with well uh also recording like we did last time like every time a few singles and then the album came out U because we started of course releasing already three years ago with the first singles it takes so much more time to go into the studio every time and to reduce something and to finish it off and then do the whole marketing thing and everything you know like doing interviews and stuff it’s almost the same kind of effort that you have to for a whole album now you do it for every single that we’ve released so far so it’s a lot of time that goes into that and in the meantime you could have written a lot more songs so I think efficiently I think we’re probably gonna just uh write a whole album again and um maybe do it a little bit more traditional again I think that that’s at least the plan that we have now and we’ll see how that works out for us you know yeah it’s always you know it’s always easy to say that the plan is this but then you probably get offered a bigger tour or something that you cannot say no to and everything changes again yeah all right Sharon thank you very much for your time always a pleasure to talk with you I’m looking forward to see you guys again in Lisbon November 25th November 26 um looking forward to see you guys and uh it’s always a pleasure to have you guys back here in Portugal
