[Music] [Music] Mr try what went down in your head the stars are in the sh [Music] listen to them to them Children of the Night Children of the Night what music in eternum where the Gloom becomes sound [Music] hi hello Adam how are you um good can you hear me I can hear you and I can see you can you hear me okay perfect yeah I can my connection is a little bit off at time so just got to make sure okay very good how is everything with you uh I’m good very good just uh preparing a lot for the upcoming tour yeah we’re leaving in about a week for North America yeah going to tour withth looking forward to that yeah yeah yeah that um couldn’t have asked for a a better tour at this very moment when we haven’t really been touring North America since for almost like six years so this is a very good um start cool to to start something again yeah and it’s you know opth you know it’s opth so you cannot ask for a I would say a better band to go on tour with as well no yeah they’re they’re lovely guys as well so yeah very much looking forward to it and you know let’s talk about Sosa in eternum uh when did you guys start working on the songs for the new album um oh I have no idea to be honest I know that I know that some of uh the songs Joseph did or some of the ideas to those songs are like a few years old okay that he uh remembered and made something new out of so some ideas are are are older but I’d say I don’t know we probably started we probably started writing properly like u a year and a half ago so like a year before we entered the studio I guess Co something like that yeah yeah and did you guys you guys get together to write or each one of you writes individually and then you present the ideas to the band yeah uh we do write individually but we uh we met up uh fairly regularly especially like the months before entering the studio and uh we all had our demos and then we uh we kind of made like pre-production job uh while writing the songs yeah so a bit of uh producing I guess even even before um entering the studio so so most of the most of the songs were more or less you know completely finished before we entered the studio so we yeah we we didn’t meet up regularly and we I guess we spent a lot of of u a lot of hours on each on each song yeah you know it was a lot of new things especially with Yan singing on many other the songs so so we um yeah we worked a lot on them yeah the the direction of the album you know it’s a bit more goth popish so to say in a way I think it’s great by the way but glad to hear that that’s still the you still have the classic tribulation elements there anyway but um during those conversations you already knew this is going to be the direction of the of the album because you guys have been involving since the first record you know evolving I would say in a good way as well you know one of the things you guys say that it’s the change is the only constant that we have um you guys already plan going in this direction or is just a very Natural Evolution so to say for tribulation well let’s say I’m I’m not very surprised we ended up where we are now uh but we we didn’t know when we started writing the material we didn’t know uh it was really johanes the singer who made a demo for the song Poison Pages the last song on the album and when he showed it to us he was singing on it so we you know we have we talked about it a little bit before uh but not to that extent yeah we talked about maybe using it as more of like a poning I guess um but when he did that and we all thought it sounded very good um it took a while I think before you know really grounding that decision to to move ahead in that direction but when we did it really opened up a lot of new doors I guess so I’m not surprised we ended up where we are now but uh we it wasn’t really a part part of a plan now yeah when you guys decided to go in this new Direction so to say you guys are not thinking or considering what the fans especially the old school ones of tribulation might think I mean did did that cross your mind I’m sure it doesn’t bother you obviously because you ended up making this record but do you guys have that in mind sometimes that you know might be a bit of a step yeah I mean sure of course we know about it uh but no we don’t really care about it and I I understand why people would care about it I I mean I have bands that I love that I wouldn’t want to see change too much as well um but I also listen to bands that do um and you know sometimes you like it sometimes you don’t that’s just that’s just life you know H so I’m not too concerned about that no uh and we we’ve been uh I guess full of surprises ever since we started this has always been a conversation with not each album but almost every album we’re having this conversation with with people and with um with the media and so on so it’s uh we are aware it but we don’t really care too much we know what we you know what we think tribul vague way of saying it but the we do have certain ideas and ideals perhaps that we that we had already on the first album that we still that we still hold on to I guess so this is just the newest way of of expressing what tribulation is really and U some people will obviously not like it but I’m sure maybe more will so is just we are ready for it I guess yeah you know when I listen to to I was listening to the album and you know I I found it as a natural progression from what you guys were were doing it wasn’t a big of a shock as some people might think when they listen I think it was very natural and as I said there’s still the old uh tribulation elements there that will you know bring you back and say okay it’s tribulation we know what it is so I don’t think it was you know for me it wasn’t too big of a shock I know for some you know more dedicated fans might be but I think it I felt it was a natural progression and looking at the photos the cleaner look also it’s nice as well I’m glad you like it I think that will shock more the fans than probably the music itself say are these guys you know why these guys where is the you know the paint in the face or you know makeup where is all that but we still do we still do use the makeup though we just had a show like a month ago and we we did use similar kinds of makeup that to what we have done a little bit less perhaps but it’s you know it’s still it’s still there it’s not the same but it’s very much in line with you know what tribulation has always been about I guess yeah but ch in a new way that’s that’s very true would you would you consider you know giving up the makeup Al together for live shows do you think it would make sense for you guys or you think it’s part of the entity of tribulation no it’s not it’s not uh we didn’t use it in the beginning uh we we only started a few years in to the band so it’s it’s not not been a constant and what we’re saying now is you know you don’t you don’t have to wear makeup if you don’t want to you have to you can’t wear anything on stage obviously but you we’ve never forced anyone to do it U even now when Joseph came in um we didn’t tell him you know that you have to yeah you really have to do it this way or that way so um so no it’s it’s not a it’s not a thing that has to be there uh it’s but it’s been a part of of the live performance for for I guess for for the time that people know us most for I guess not the not the old school fans but since you know the children of the night or something uh of course that’s been you know what you expect when you go see a a tribulation show but it’s still there so it’s it’s not it’s not that big a big a change yeah wouldn’t be like Kiss giving up to makeup no no exactly exactly it’s not un asking you know we we haven’t always had the makeup in like Photo sessions and so on so yeah it’s not the most important thing of the of the image I guess and if you play like a very warm venue I guess the makeup will wear off after a couple songs yeah on some of us not not on all of us it’s it tends to stick to me not much of a sweater but for other people yes and you know looking at the artwork there is a certain romantic religious feeling into it uh do you think it portrays uh the vibe of the records yeah uh more so than than um than anything else I would say um it’s trying to get the image up so that I actually see it when I’m talking about it um it’s um it was I mean it’s a very you know General cover the the cover is not about a certain song or a very specific message it’s it’s um it’s more to keep the Aesthetics in line the you know the title The the cover art just the way it looks and the way it feels and to connect that to to the music really and the the over arching idea we had for for the for the whole thing I guess so yeah yeah yeah and uh you know one of my favorite songs on the record Saturn coming down what is it about I know it’s your song um what is it about uh it’s very metaphorical or it’s very direct no yeah right no it’s not direct at all it’s it’s um well to some extent I guess but but um when it comes to writing lyrics for tribulation it’s it’s very much uh like a a game of associations almost it’s a very intuitive almost uh thing for me when I do it at least um it’s not like writing um an article or like a an academic paper it’s it’s it’s it’s something completely different so it it might draw on on on actual uh you know mythology or or uh cosmology or whatever but it’s it’s very it’s very much a piece of I don’t know in like an intuitive poem almost so this Saturn coming down is obviously about Saturn to some extent but it’s it draws on many different ways of seeing uh Saturn through throughout well the thousands of years really that he’s been a concept H and how about about how the image we have now corresponds to the image of of like the Grim Reaper there’s some like a uh more devotional uh elements from how various people in India see see Saturn or shy as they call him yeah and how how you can use you know the shy to to remedy your ailments and how how that planet that graa as it’s called influences people’s lives and so it’s it’s it’s really drawing from a lot of different sources to just to make this associative game in the in in the lyrics so it’s it’s not very precise at all but it’s it’s very much like a a hidden to to to Saturn not that I’m saying now that you know I’m So Into astrology or whatever it’s just I’m very much interested in the subjects in general that’s that’s really it yeah normally it really depends when when people come with a you know I’m interested in space and you know what is beyond planet Earth and you know all the planets and you know the energy the particles everything that’s something that interests me except when people start talking about like the signs you know like if you’re a Capricorn or whatever and you know I I don’t buy any of that you know no no well no and you don’t no one has to but for me it’s always been regardless of whatever I believe really it’s all I’m very much interested in like the history of ideas yeah and this is I mean astrology has had such a big impact on on history on kings and queens and still do in in large parts of the world and I I think that’s the that’s something that we nowadays tend to overlook when we you know at least some people of course there are like historians and historians of religion that do know this but uh it seems to have played such a major role in like in decision making in the past in in in in various areas of the world so it’s I love I love looking into a different um yeah how how people used to to see the world yeah because we know that obviously the planets and the you know let’s say the moon for instance influences the tides and you know a lot of stuff that happens on the planet so you know obviously there is a connection and I’m sure there is you know a more broader connection with other planets and when they align and you know that’s interesting but don’t come with signs with me but yeah it’s still you know it’s still an interesting subject to to explore and I’m sure to write about and um you know another song that I enjoyed was drink the love of gods um I really enjoyed the melody and uh who who came up with that song for for the album I did I did U I’m picking your songs both yeah both of the Saturn coming down and drink the love of God and they’re kind of connected in a way because I when I started making the demos for well all of the songs I did really I I just found this guitar sound that I liked and the the songs were written with to death guitar sound and then and that was only like a demo sound so we wanted to to recreate that in the studio somehow and it took us a long time to actually it didn’t turn out the same way but that wasn’t really the plan just to have a you know general direction of where to go um so that was that’s really one example of how we worked in the studio to to Really find the sounds we wanted uh and and that sound in particular was so important because it was so important for the songs being written both the the intro to Saturn coming down and that Melody uh in the intro to to drink the love of God both of those are really written because of this guitar sound so so they are connected in a way cool and how was to work with with Tom the producer I know he was during the pre-production as well with you guys um you know he’s been a very thought producer you know ghost uh onto others have worked with him how used to work with Tom he seems to be you know bring the best out of musicians these days yeah no Tom is Tom is great uh great and great producer we uh we met him on a ghost tour actually uh like five years ago and we just we just uh hit it off instantly he he liked the band and we um yeah he’s just a very nice guy to to hang around um and luckily he also he’s also a very good producer so he was a little bit more involved with this one than he been in the past he we sent him the demos and so on before go entering the studio and then he came up uh for like a week I think before right before we entered the studio and then he came back for the last week in the studio as well and then we kept in contact with him throughout the entire session so so he did have uh more of an impact on this one I’d say um and just a just a you know when when you’re being creative it’s of utmost importance I’d say that whoever you’re talking to understands you and knows the language understands references and so on and he does okay so you can talk about Metal you can talk about you know whatever pop music go rock country and he understands what you’re saying yeah so yeah that’s that’s very nice I think that one you know less hurdle to to yeah did you guys get over did you guys spend much time working on the sound you know for your guitar sound for the drum sound because one of the things I really enjoy is work is the drum sound in ghost for instance that I think it’s you know almost the perfect drum sound for me but did you guys spend much time working on the on sounds for for the album yeah yeah we did uh we and we used so many different things I don’t know how many guitars are used like I don’t know six or seven different ones maybe H and that was always the case you’d we’d had a bunch of amplifiers I usually went with using like Twin Reverb two of them uh really really loud and then then whatever section we were were doing we would always uh yeah check the amps check different guitars check uh different pedals and all that and for the drums I I don’t really have to get involved really a lot at all with that because Oscar the drummer is he’s very particular about his drumming and you can always trust him with that uh with tuning and with the skins and whatever it is that he’s doing um and so yeah we spent a lot of time on on different sounds that that’s for sure cool and uh before before we go um you guys are already going on the tour in the US October what are the plans for next year for Europe uh anything that you can reveal yet um well I can say that we’re going to tour in Europe I can’t say exactly when but I can say that it’s going to happen soon if not two tours and absolutely one tour in Europe uh and more as well in the in North America it really it’s really a start of a new like touring cycle that begin in in a week from now so yeah this is only the first one cool very good Adam thank you very much for your time all the best for tribulation looking forward to see you guys back in Portugal or somewhere in Europe hopefully so fingers crossed for that announcement and you know hope to see you soon all right yeah thank you so much thank you very much have a
