O combustível em Portugal é de alta qualidade por causa do próprio processo de refinação, e por causa de ter pouca água na mistura combustível.
A questão do aumento de potência com a injeção de uma mistura de combustível com um elevado índice de etanol deve-se exclusivamente a uma questão termodinâmica, e não por causa do uma magia.
A gasolina é um combustível com uma densidade energética maior que o etanol por causa da estrutura e composição molécular (mais carbonos, mais energia química tem acumulada), posto isto, etanol é um combustível "mais fraco" em relação à gasolina.
No processo de injeção, o combustível é injetado sob alta pressão, isto é, as partículas líquidas ficam em suspensão na câmara de combustão (uma nuvem de combustível). Por causa do calor do ciclo de combustão, essas particulas líquidas que foram injetadas são vaporizadas, ou seja, existe uma mudança de estado (líquido -> gasoso). Esta mudança de estado é feita por absorção de calor (entalpia) do meio por parte das gotículas de combustível, e esta absorção vai diminuir a temperatura da própria câmara de combustão.
A redução da temperatura da câmara de combustão, faz com que o ar que é aspirado para o motor, assim que entra na câmara de combustão, seja mais denso e frio, o que resulta numa melhor combustão, porque para o mesmo volume de ar, existe uma massa de ar maior, o que resulta numa melhor estequimetria de reação.
O calor (enalpia) de vaporização (líquido -> gasoso) da gasolina é inferior ao calor de vaporização do etanol. Traduzindo, o etanol arrefece muito mais a câmara de combustão, o que resulta num ar mais denso do que o ar de uma câmara de combustão com injeção de gasolina.
Resumindo: o etanol permite que se produza mais energia por causa de uma maior quantidade de ar que é alimentada por volume de câmara de combustão ao motor (câmaras de combustão mais frias), mas não tem a mesma eficiência que a gasolina de maior densidade energética (fazer consumos).
